This holiday focuses on a lesser known National Park of Sri Lanka, Kumana National Park. It is situated on the southeast of Ceylon, near Yala National Park. The National Park receives significantly less tourist compared to Yala. We will spend 7 full days in the park looking for elephants, leopards, sloth bears and many more. 7 full-day safaris should give us plenty of opportunities to photography the unique fauna of this hidden gem. This is a small group tour (4-6 participants) that focuses on nature and wildlife photography. it is lead by British wildlife photographer Cai Priestley and by Sri Lankan wildlife Photographer Mevan Piyasena. The safari vehicles will allow us to get to eye level and maximise the photography experience.
Cai Priestley
Cai has had a passion for wild animals and nature from an early age, and is mainly known for his work with Canadian wildlife.
He took up photography as a hobby after a trip to Africa when he was eleven, and since then, he’s been building an extensive portfolio of wildlife images from around the world.
Cai believes that ethics are the most important thing about nature photography.
All of his photographs feature wild, free-roaming animals, doing what they do naturally. Nothing captive, nothing baited, and nothing ‘called in’.
Mevan Piyasena
The love for wildlife and nature from childhood made Mevan Piyasena transform his passion into a profession.
A lifetime of experience in the Sri Lankan wilderness made him a keen wildlife photographer and expert in reading behavioural patterns in wildlife. He holds certificates in Wildlife management and conservation too.
He is also an active member of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka (Birdlife International), and a member of the Young Zoologists’ Association of Sri Lanka. He currently shares his expertise and knowledge with wildlife photographers from different parts of the world.
