YOUR GUIDE

Iacopo Nerozzi

Iacopo earned a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Florence with a thesis on the herpetofauna of Djibouti, in the Horn of Africa, and a Master’s degree in Nature Sciences and Management at the University of Bologna, focusing on the ecology of Italian vipers.

As a freelance professional, he works on regional and european LIFE monitoring projects as a herpetologist and entomologist. Also, he is the author of some scientific publications.

A lifelong nature enthusiast, he spent his childhood glued to wildlife documentaries—often at the expense of his retinal health. With a pathological passion for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, he has always wondered how to make others’ eyes light up at the sight of a snake’s flickering tongue or the frantic scuttle of a beetle.

Camera in hand, he chases everything “unaesthetic” to share—through his Instagram profile @unaesthetic_fauna—the overlooked wonders of the tiny world that surrounds us. Some of his photographs have been awarded in international and national photo contests like Environmental Photography Award, Big Picture, Asferico, IBC Photo Awards and made an appearance on international journals like BBC Wildlife Magazine, The Guardian, Forbes and Journal of Zoology.

Ecuador is located on the northwestern part of South- America. It lays on the Equator; this is where its name comes from. One of the smallest countries on the continent holds a fantastic variety of landscapes; from the lowland rainforests of the West to the high Andean peaks to the Amazon on the East.

Ecuador has 11 National Parks, 9 Ecological Reserves and 4 Biological Reserves.

The country is a wildlife hotspot; there are more than 1600 species of birds living in this area, 300 of them are endemic to the region.

The cloud forests are full of hummingbirds; the rainforests give shelter to parrots, caimans, and the elusive jaguar; the paramos of the Andes are home to the Andean fox and the endangered Blue-throated Hillstar. Ecuador is an excellent travel destination which combines the options to visit these unique ecosystems and some beautiful colonial towns like Quito ad Cuenca.
