Day 1: San Jose – Vara Blanca

 

Upon arrival at the capital of Costa Rica, our driver will transfer you to your accommodation which will be located north of the capital, near Poas Volcano National Park. In the evening free time for leisure.

Day 2: Poas Volcano National Park

 

Today you will have the opportunity to visit Poas Volcano. As you approach the higher elevation you will see how the vegetation changes. Poas is one of the most impressive volcanoes of the country, its crater’s diameter is 1 km and has a depth of 300m. You can spend 30 minutes at the rim and observe the main geyser.

In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to discover the famous Doka Coffee Plantation which belongs to the Vargas Ruiz Family since the 1930s. Learn about the productions, the harvest, and the roasting.

Day 3: Vara Blanca to Arenal

 

Your driver will pick you up after breakfast and take you to your next destination, to Arenal. After check-in, you will have time to relax at the hotel or to do an optional activity.

Day 4: Volcan Tenorio National Park

 

Today you will embark on a day trip to the breathtaking Volcan Tenorio National Park. You will be hiking along a 7 km long trail which will lead you to the turquoise blue Rio Celeste and the beautiful waterfall. You will have the chance to hike to a viewpoint and to admire the view of Tenorio volcano. Lunch will be served after the excursion.

Day 5: Arenal to Monteverde

 

After breakfast, you will be picked u ad taken to your new destination to the lush cloudforest of Monteverde. After arrival, you’ll have time to explore the town or the gardens of the hotel.

Day 6: Monteverde

 

Today is the day to discover Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve. Your naturalist guide will pick you up in the morning and take you to the Reserve where you can decide which trail to take. Monteverde is an excellent location for the nature lovers, it is home to 3000 different plants and around 500 species of birds, including the majestic Resplendent Quetzal. After this 3-4 hour long activity you’ll have the chance to either relax at your hotel or to do another optional activity

Day 7: Monteverde to Carara National Park

 

Breakfast at the lodge then your driver will transfer you to the unique Carara National Park. After arrival, free time for leisure.

Day 8: Carara National Park

 

Carara, due to its unique location, is an excellent birding place. In the morning you will be accompanied by a local birding guide and you will explore the National Park looking for different kind of macaws, toucans and manaquins. The National Park is home to 350 species of birds.

Day 9: Carara National Park to Golfito

 

After breakfast, your driver will pick you up and take you to the South Pacific. It will be a long drive, but it will be well worth the journey. You will be accommodated near the Piedras Blancas National Park, which is technically the extension of the rainforest of the Osa Peninsula. The pure nature of the National Park is home to some amazing wildlife.
