Richard is a published and award-winning photographer based in Cornwall, England and has spent 22 years in the UK Military as a Survival Specialist. Richard has been photographing for over 35 years and has now worked as a full time wildlife & nature photographer for the past 7 years. He travels around the United Kingdom and beyond in search of new subjects and is currently working on a number of conservation projects. He focuses on capturing images of nature in their natural environment, his belief is the welfare of the subject in Wildlife photography must come first above any image.
This is a 12-day wildlife photography holiday to Brazil that mainly focuses on the colourful birds of this South American country. The trip is suitable for amateur, advanced and pro-nature photographers.
The holiday is led by British, ethical wildlife photographer Richard Birchett and Brazilian wildlife photographer Samuel Betkowski. Their presence is a guarantee of a fun, action-packed holiday where everyone can take their time and photograph an array of colourful birds and other wildlife. We will also spend 2 days on the rivers photographing jaguars.
Arrive at Cuiaba, the gateway of the Northern Pantanal.

We start our drive early as it will take us 5h to get to our destination. Enjoy your lunch en route while heading to Porto Jofre. There will be some stops along the Transpantaneira road to photograph Caimans, Birds and other animals.

We spend the next two days on the rivers of Cuiabá, Tres Irmaos, Piquiri and other canals. This region belongs to the Encontro das Águas State Park. It is an area with the highest concentration of jaguars in the world. While searching for wild jaguars, we can also spot giant river otters, caimans, capybara, and an array of birds!
Overnight: Porto Jofre
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We leave Porto Jofre today and head North to our lodge, near Pocone. We stay for 1 night on our way to the Savanna. We will have good chances of photographing birds (Especially macaws and toucans) and if we are lucky the South American Tapir too.
Overnight: Pocone
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We start with a walking safari just before sunrise, and will visit the bird watching tower after breakfast too.
After that we will head to the Cerrado where we continue photographing the resident birds near our lodge.
We spend the next day near the lodge and we will also discover the savanna in search of its unique avifauna.
Targets: Red-legged Honeycreeper, Black-cowled Oriole, Golden-hooded Tanager, Shinning Honeycreeper, Blue Dacnis, etc.
Overnight: Chapada dos Guimaraes
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We leave early and travel 5 hours to our lodge at the Lower Amazon of Brazil. This is an other birding hotspot, where over 500 species of bids can be found. This is where the Amazon meets the Cerrado.
Overnight: Lower Amazon
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We spend 2 full days around the lodge where we will have chances to do jeep, walking and boat safaris. We will have a great chances of photographing birds and if we are lucky we may see the elusive Mittermeier’s Tapajos Saki.
Targets: Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Lesser-violet Ears, Talamanca’s Hummingbird, Volcano Hummingbird, etc.
Overnight: In the Lower Amazon
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
We will say goodbye to the Amazon today and travel back to Cuiaba (4h) where we stay for our last night.
