Day 6 – 7: Discover the Ibera Marshes
Ibera Wetlands are among the largest marshes in Argentina. It is covering around one-fourth of Mesopotamia province. However, due to the lack of infrastructure, some parts of the wetlands are inaccessible. Therefore, it is a critical area for wildlife. It is an excellent place to see many species of the spectacular avifauna like the Yellow-headed Caracara, the Long-tailed Reed-Finch, and eight species of herons that can also be found. Mammals also inhabit the swamps; common species are Marsh deer, Capybaras and Southern River Otters. Along with mammals, reptiles can also be found here (Yellow anacondas, Spectacled Caimans). In the afternoon, walk through the forest, where there will be an excellent chance to see Howler monkeys, Striped cuckoos, and one of Argentina’s rarest birds, the Yellow Cardinal.
