COLOMBIA BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI
Day 1: Arrive at Cali, welcome to Colombia
Arrival in Cali (Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport). Join us for a delightful welcome dinner (payable locally), where we’ll introduce fellow participants and discuss the exciting activities planned for the days ahead.

Overnight in Cali.
Day 2 – 3: Bird Photography in the Cali Cloud Forest
Start the day with going to a small farm located in the western Andes of Colombia (at 2,000 m.a.s.l.). It has 20 species of hummingbirds and you can also spot up to 30 species of tanagers, including the famous Multicolored Tanager, one of the main objectives of this trip!
Other species of birds such as flower piercers, honeycreepers, jay, toucans, woodpecker will appear too.
In addition, during these days, we will have the opportunity to take multiflash photography, in which we will be able to obtain beautiful photos of hummingbirds in flight and perched near the feeders.

Overnight in the Valle del Cauca.
Day 4 -5 : Discovering the La Rivera Reserve
Today we start heading North and go to La Rivera Reserve, to see and photograph the famous Red-ruffed Fruitcrow. In the afternoon we will visit Finca Don Miguel Reserve in Chinchiná, to photograph the Bay-headed Tanager. After our stay we will head slowly towards Manizales.

Overnight in Salento.
Day 6 – 7: Photographing the Parrots of Cajamarca
After breakfast, we will go to Cajamarca in search of another main target of the trip, the Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis). On arrival, if time permits, we will visit a reserve of “Palmas de Cera” , which are nesting places for the parrots. We will also enjoy seeing and photographing some stunning hummingbirds in the area.
On the following day , we will visit again the private reserve with the Palm trees in search of the Yellow-eared Parrot. We will spend the rest of the day around the bird feeders in a private reserve, where there are great chances of observing Tolima Blossomcrown and the Yellow-headed Brushfinch, two endemic species that frequently visit the local gardens.

Day 8 – 9: Tanagers, Hummingbirds and Manakins near Tinamu
After breakfast we will leave to the outskirts of Manizales. Once we arrive at the reserve, we will enjoy the company of hummingbirds in a full multi-flash day. Our main targets in the area are the Steely-vented Hummingbird, the Western Emerald, the White- necked Jacobin, the Rufoustailed Hummingbird (Rufous-tailed hummingbird), the White-vented Plumeleteer , the Green hermit, the Blackthroated Mango, and many more.
This beautiful dry forest is a perfect place for bird and nature lovers. The feeders attract a wide-range of species, like the Clay- coloured Thrush, Andean Motmot, Thick-billed Euphonia, Crimson-rumped Tanager, Acorn woodpecker, Bay-headed tanager, Blue-necked tanager, Crimson-backed tanager ), Scrub tanager, Bluegray tanager , Guira tanager , Red-crowned woodpecker …
Additionally, when the lek activity is high, it is possible to approach to take good photographs of the Golden-collared Manakin.

Day 10 – 11: Birding around Manizales
In the next two days we will discover a big ranch and the surrounding cloud forest looking for the chance to photograph some exotic and exciting species. In the morning we will photograph the feeding Crescent-faced antpitta (Grallaricula lineifrons) and Rufous antpitta (Grallaria rufula). we will also have a great chance of seeing and photographing Grey Breasted Mountain Toucans (Andigena hypoglauca), Barred fruiteater (Pipreola arcuata), the Hooded Mountain-Tanager (Buthraupis montana). In the afternoon we will continue with hummingbirds photography, which includes the famous Sword-billed hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera).
The next day the main target will be the iconic Black-billed Mountain-Toucan along with 10-20 species of hummingbirds.

Overnight in Manizales.
Day 12 – 13: Birding in the Los Nevados
We spend the next two days at high elevation (3400 m.a.s.l.). The forest we will visit is located near the Natural Los Nevados National Park. He re the goal will be to see and photograph the Southern Emerald-Toucanet.
Our lodge is located in a privileged location that combines natural hot springs with a pleasant place for bird watching and photography. At the feeders, we can photograph and enjoy the sighting of Black-thighed and Golden-breasted pufflegs, Great sapphirewings, Buff-winged Starfrontlets, Collared Incas, Mountain Velvetbreasts; and if we are extremely lucky, the magnificent Rainbow-bearded Thornbill (Chalcostigma herrani).
The next day we will visit the paramo to see the Buffy Helmetcrest (Oxypogon stuebelii) in its natural habitat.

Overnight near Termales.
Day 14: Departure Day
After a good rest and a tasty breakfast, we will head back to Pereira city’s airport.
