This is our iconic wildlife photography holiday in Sri Lanka. This is a small guided group holiday (5 participants maximum), led by Sri Lankan wildlife Photographer Mevan Piyasena. The holiday focuses on key National Parks to maximise our chances to photograph Sri Lankan leopards, elephants, sloth bears and birds. We will do half day and full day safaris and use safari vehicles that allows you to get to eye level and maximise the photography experience.
Upon your arrival in Colombo, the vibrant capital of Sri Lanka, get ready for an exciting wildlife photography holiday. Your taxi will take you to the city centre, where you’ll spend the night, setting the stage for the adventures ahead. Tomorrow, we head to the heart of the rainforest.

After a delightful breakfast, we begin our four-hour journey to Yala National Park. We will go out for our first safari in the afternoon looking for the elusive Sri Lankan Leopard.

Over the next two days, dive deeper into the wonders of Yala National Park through two half-day safaris each day. There will be plenty of wildlife photography opportunities. We will search for Asiatic elephants, leopards, sloth bears and many more.

Saying goodbye to Yala, we embark on a four-hour journey to Kumana National Park. This wildlife photographer’s paradise will offer some great chances with the majestic Asiatic leopards in their natural habitat. On the other side Kumana is a lesser visited park and it offers a wide range of habitats. Enjoy our first safari in the afternoon.

The next two days will be spent by 2x full-day wildlife photography safaris. We will be driving around the National Park at look for mammals and exotic bird species.

Today, we leave the Southeast of Sri Lanka and travel towards Dambulla, a city renowned for its cultural heritage. After dinner, we will search for the elusive Red Slender Loris, a shy nocturnal mammal.

The morning brings us to the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, offering panoramic views and insights into Sri Lanka’s ancient history. In the afternoon, we travel to a village and embark on a boat ride to photograph pelicans and other water birds.

We leave Dambulla after breakfast and head towards the northwest of the island, to our next destination, Wilpattu National park. We will enjoy a half-day photo safari in the afternoon.

For the next two days, we will discover Wilpattu’s untamed wilderness, with good chances of seeing Sri Lankan leopards and sloth bears. There will be plenty of options to photograph the vast wildlife of the park. On one of the evenings we go for a night safari looking for Nocturnal cats in the buffer zone.

As your wildlife photography holiday comes to an end, we head back to Colombo Airport where we say goodbye.
