MAMMALS OF THE PANTANAL TOUR
Day 1: Arrive at Cuiaba
Individual arrival to Cuiabá where we meet at an airport hotel for a welcome briefing at 7pm.
Overnight in Cuiaba.
Meals Included: None
Day 2: Travel to Pocone
We meet at the hotel’s lobby and start our 3-hour journey to Pocone, to the beginning of the Pantanal. We will have lunch en-route and check in at the lodge at 14:30. We will have our first afternoon & evening safaris looking for nocturnal mammals and birds.
Overnight in Pouso Alegre Lodge.

Day 3: Mammal watching Safaris at Pouso Algre
We spend the day on the ground of the lodge and the surrounding ranches. We will have a chance to spot monkeys, coatis, capybaras, and with some luck ocelot, giant anteater and tapir. The area is also a paradise for bird-lovers. We will enjoy a morning, an afternoon and an evening safari ether on foot or by trucks.
Overnight in Pouso Alegre Lodge.

Day 4: Travel to Porto Jofre
We will enjoy our last jeep safari and then we will depart on a 3-hour journey to Porto Jofre, to the gate of “Jaguarland”. We will spend lunch at our Lodge and will have our first boat safari on the rivers in the afternoon.
Overnight in Piquiri.

Day 5 – 8: In-Search for Jaguars
Enjoy four consecutive days of boat safaris along the Cuiabá River and its tributaries. On day 5 the plan is to do a full day safari. We will occupy out floating hotel on this day.
During the following 3 days we will explore the river systems on boat to photograph jaguars, giant river otters, an abundance of birds, reptiles and other mammals. most probably we will do 2x half day safaris on each day, and go back to our floating hotel for lunch to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Overnight in Porto Jofre.

Day 9: Travel back to Cuiaba
After breakfast we leave for Cuiaba as it will take us 5 hours or more to get back. Estimated arrival is at 15:00-16:00.

After breakfast, individual departure from Cuiaba Airport.

Cuiaba
Amazon Hotel Aeroporto (Superior), or similar
This is a really nice, modern, 4-star hotel within walking distance from Cuiaba Airport.
Pocone
Pouso Alegre Lodge (Basic, traditional), or similar
Enjoy the wonders of the Pantanal from this rustic Lodge from an authentic 11,000-hectare cattle farm. Get the feel of the pantaneiro lifestyle and discover the local flora and fauna. The farm offers 24 apartments with AC, fans, and bathrooms with hot showers.
Piquiri
Pousada Piquiri (Rustic), or similar
it is a charming, rustic lodge on the bank of the Piquiri River, south of the Encontro das Águas State Park. We will stay here for 1 night before we occupy our floating hotel. The lodge is in a great location to be able to see tapirs, giant river otters and hyacinth macaws.
Porto Jofre
Barco Aguapé (Standard, Floating Hotel), or similar
Barco Agupe is a somewhat modern floating hotel docking on the Cuiaba river. It will give us the advantage as we will be closer to the State Park and we can get our early to get the nicest light of the day.

TOUR SUMMARY
This 10-Day itinerary focuses on the Northern Pantanal. We will be staying at three locations, in Pouso Alegre lodge near Pocone, in a lodge along the Piquiri river and on a floating hotel near Porto Jofre. The tour focuses on maximising our chances to see and photograph most of the mammals of the Pantanal. With some luck we can see Giant Anteaters, Brazilian Tapirs, Jaguars, Ocelots, Tayras, Howler monkeys and many more.
Gustavo, our local biologist guide has an incredible eye and knowledge for wildlife.
