We start early today to drive down to the area near Pocone. This is the northern part of the Pantanal with open grasslands. We have the best chance to see anteaters here. The area is home to an array of birds and other elusive mammals too.

We ride early as this is the best time to see giant anteaters. They are mainly active at dawn. We spend the morning with walking and truck safaris. After lunch we drive down to Porto Jofre, the gateway to “Jaguarland”. Where we spend the following 5 nights.

Enjoy full-day jaguar safaris on the Cuiabá River and its tributaries.

We will enjoy our last boat safari in the morning before we move to our final location, where we aim to see the maned wolf. We will spend the night at this new location.

A simple, family-run lodge in the Pocone region that will serve for our first base looking for birds and the elusive Giant Anteater in the Northern Pantanal.
Porto Jofre

Pousada Porto Jofre is a simple lodge on the bank of the Cuiaba River in Porto Jofre. It will be a good base to discover the area and enjoy our boat safaris.
Pousada Mangueiral (Standard), or similar
A simple lodge where we will spend our last night before returning to Cuiaba. It is an excellent place to see the unique maned wolf.

Richard is a published and award-winning photographer based in Cornwall, England and has spent 22 years in the UK Military as a Survival Specialist. Richard has been photographing for over 35 years and has now worked as a full time wildlife & nature photographer for the past 7 years. He travels around the United Kingdom and beyond in search of new subjects and is currently working on a number of conservation projects. He focuses on capturing images of nature in their natural environment, his belief is the welfare of the subject in Wildlife photography must come first above any image.
This is an ultimate wildlife photography safari to the Northern Pantanal of Brazil. These floodplains are one of the best wildlife destinations in Latin America. We will have the chance to photograph Jaguars, Giant anteaters, and Giant River Otters.
Our 2027 itinerary comes with a twist. Besides spending 5 nights at Porto Jofre, the capital of “Jaguarland”, we will have the chance to see and photograph two iconic mammals, the giant anteater and the maned wolf.
This holiday is perfect for someone who is looking for a relaxed photography safari where mammals and birds are in focus.
