TOUR SUMMARY

On this holiday we will discover the reptile and amphibian diversity of this West-African country. There haven’t been a lot of herpetology records or studies made in Gambia before, so the chances to find new country records are quite high.

The holiday takes place during the wet season, therefore periodic torrential rains can be expected. We will do a mix of activities by looking for animals on the fields, do boat trips on the river and road cruise at night.

The Gambia: The Gambia is Africa’s smallest (non-island) country that is dominated by the Gambia River. The country is quite flat and is surrounded by Senegal. The vegetation on the uplands is savanna, but inland and mangrove swamps can also be found along the river. It is a birding hotspot, but the country is also home to mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
